Essel Group
Essel Group (alternatively referred to as the Zee Group) is an Indian conglomerate holding company and corporate promoter headquartered in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. The company has had business interests in mass media, broadcasting infrastructure, and packaging. It operates the subsidiaries of Zee Media Corporation, Zee Entertainment Enterprises, Dish TV, and Siti Networks.
The group has been reported to be encumbered with severe debt; a Businessworld article described the company as debt-ridden. As a result, it has conducted several assets sales including the sale of Essel Propack and stake sales of Zee Entertainment Enterprises. Founded in 1926 as the Messrs Ramgopal Indraprasad by Jagannath Goenka, the company was expanded and converted into the Essel Group of Industries by his grandson, Subhash Chandra.
Chandra is part of the Goenka (Goel) family which owns and operates the group, he is also the chairman of the company and a Bharatiya Janata Party-backed member of the Rajya Sabha.
SUN TV Network
Sun TV Network is an Indian mass media company headquartered in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. It is a part of Sun Group and is one of Asia's largest TV networks. Established on 14 April 1993 by Kalanithi Maran, it owns a variety of television channels and radio stations in multiple languages.
Its flagship channel is Sun TV, which was the first fully privately owned Tamil channel in India. Sun Group has owned Hyderabad-based IPL team Sunrisers Hyderabad since 2012.
PVR
PVR Cinemas is a film entertainment public limited company in India. The company started as a joint venture agreement between Priya Exhibitors Private Limited and Village Roadshow Limited in 1995 with a 60:40 ratio. It began its commercial operations in June 1997. The company is founded by Ajay Bijli who is the chairman and managing director of PVR Cinemas.
Ajay Bijli's brother Sanjeev Kumar Bijli is the Joint Managing Director of PVR Ltd. The company also operates a pro-active CSR wing under PVR. The first PVR Gold Screen was introduced in Forum Mall, Bangalore.
Dish TV
DishTV India (stylized as DishTV) is an Indian direct broadcast satellite service provider in India owned and operated by the Zee Group and the Videocon Group. DishTV was launched by the Zee Group on 2 October 2003. It ranked # 437 and # 5 on the list of media companies in the Fortune India 500 roster of India's largest corporations in 2011.
Dish TV was also voted India's most trusted DTH brand according to the Brand Trust Report 2014, a study conducted by Trust Research Advisory. On 22 March 2018, Dish TV completed a merger with Videocon d2h, creating the largest DTH provider in India.
TV18
TV18 Broadcast Ltd. is an Indian entity belonging to Network 18 Group based in Mumbai. TV18 owns and operates various channels of the NBCUniversal group for the Indian viewers such as CNBC-TV18, CNBC Awaaz & CNBC-TV18 Prime HD as well as WarnerMedia - CNN-News18.
TV18 has also forayed into the Indian factual entertainment space through a joint venture with A+E Networks and operates History TV18 and FYI TV18. In the regional space, the group operates a Gujarati business news channel – CNBC Bajar, a Marathi general news channel – News18 Lokmat and operates ten regional news channels under the News18 umbrella and 3 regional entertainment channels under the News18 brand. The group also operates a 24-hour Indian news channel in English – News18 India, targeting global audiences.
TV18 and Viacom18 have formed a strategic joint venture called IndiaCast, a multi-platform 'content asset monetization' entity that drives domestic and international channel distribution, placement services, and content syndication for the bouquet of channels from the group and third parties.
